Taylor Harvey Band: News

Many thanks to Joey Harris for coming down to the Plank for an afternoon of music with Taylor! It was a great time, with Joey showing why he's considered one of the best guitarists anywhere! The guys had fun and might even want to do it again sometime, so if you missed it keep your eyes peeled here for notice of the next time these guys get together.

The band had a great run of shows in May, finishing off with an awesome night of music at the Belly Up Tavern! Many thanks to those who came out and supported local music. The guys also had a great first night at McP's Irish Pub on Coronado and will certainly be back there many times in the future. The fun continues in June, so check the calendar page to find out when and where.

So stay alert and catch the THB as many times as possible! There's no way you can need more coffee than the band, so let's not hear any whining. Just come out and have some fun. Check the calendar page for complete info.

At the request of Joey Harris, who was sufficiently impressed with the THB at Tio Leo's in March to put them on his "first call" list, the guys will be returning to the Belly Up to play with Joey's band The Mentals and Sara Petite. The show starts at 8 p.m. (we'll probably play first) and the cover is $8 in advance, $10 the day of the show. We need your support on this one, so mark your calendar for an evening of awesome music!

But the time has come to move on. Taylor won't be doing the solo shows on Wednesday night anymore, but would like to thank the staff at Don's for making him feel so welcome. It remains a favorite bar of the THB and a great place to see live local bands.

It's true, Taylor has been given the green light to keep the solo acoustic show going! Come on out to Don's and check out acoustic versions of your favorite THB songs and whatever else he can remember how to play. Details on Calendar page.

This season the THB plays some great new venues that they're really looking forward to. Campland on the Bay, McP's, Mission Bay Yacht Club and San Diego Harley's weekly BBQ bash are all on the list. Check the calendar and come on out to see what makes these places so cool.

Well, okay, really not a "member" as such, but Taylor just got an awesome new Gibson Les Paul that is delivering some great tone on some of your favorite rockin' songs. He's named this killer guitar "Suzanne," so come on out and hear what she can do!

Friday night at Tio Leo's with Joey Harris & the Mentals was an awesome night! The THB played a great set and Joey and Co. were duly impressed. Then Joey and his band played two awesome, smokin' hot sets to finish the night. We saw a lot of good friends and some faces we hadn't seen in quite a while. The best part of the evening for me was the total class Joey and his band displayed. They were generous with their talent and gracious with their stage and I came away feeling like I made some new friends. The THB has been invited to open for Joey Harris & the Mentals at Tio Leo's on Napa St. next Friday, March 9! It seems the guys made a good impression when Joey sat in at Don's a while back, and when it was time to find an opening act, he said "let's get those Taylor Harvey Band guys - they rock pretty good!" This promises to be one helluva set, so come early to get a seat for this 9 p.m. show and be sure to make plans to hang around for Joey! There will be an $8 cover charge.

Yes, the fun shall continue every Wednesday night. Stop in to have some fun, request a song, hear some long-forgotten trash and just generally have a great time! You never know who's gonna stop in. (Please note that there will be no appearance on Feb. 14. or Feb. 28 due to prior committments.)

Very sad to report that Mike is stranded in the snow in New York! This means the band has had to cancel the gig at Janie's in Chula Vista this friday night. Our apologies go out to all, and we hope Mike makes it back safe and sound.

Don's Cocktail's is having TH go it alone every Wednesday from 7 to 11 p.m., so come on out and be part of the show!

A very Happy New Year to every one! December was great and the THB enjoyed playing Janie's in Chula Vista for the first time as well as a hoppin' New Year's Eve party at Cheers. Now the guys are looking forward to a very busy January and February. They'll be playing somewhere almost every weekend and several times during the weeks, so check the calendar page for the joint nearest you and come on out!

The band is gearing up for a B.I.G. December with shows at Cheers!, Humphrey's, Janie's and Don's Cocktail Lounge. In addition, Taylor will be doing solo gigs at the Plank on Sundays and, for the first time, Wednesday nights at Don's! Plenty of chances for you to come check out the music! It's always nice to read nice things about yourself, and I want to take a minute to thank those who have written revues of our music on the CDBaby.com pages. There have been some very good comments posted there and it gives me encouragement to keep going when I find a new reveiw has been posted. The THB is heading into the basement for a while. Gotta sharpen some new tunes, brush up on some old tunes and learn a few new covers, but not to worry, (Patricia) the band will be back in action on November 24th at Don's in Lakeside/El Cajon. In the meantime, Taylor still plays at the Plank on Sunday afternoons.

That's right, just one week until the first ever THB Halloween Party at Humphrey's Backstage Lounge. Tell your friends and come on down. There will be THB CDs and laminates for just $5 each all night long and we promise no one will ask you for candy.

The THB will be providing the music for the Boulevard Boo Parade post-parade party at Clay Park in El Cajon from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 28th. Drop on by and soak up the fun, music and sun if you're in the area.

October 31 will be the first ever Taylor Harvey Band Halloween party at Humphrey's! Wear a costume or don't, bring treats if you want, but the band will be serving up a ton of favorite songs for everyone tired of hearing the doorbell ring and the local kids asking for candy! It's been a while, so come down to Humphrey's Backstage Lounge and join the THB for a little grown-up party.

September 23rd is a date you'll want to circle on your calendar. The THB will be hosting a jam featuring musicians from all over the country at Campland on the Bay in Pacific Beach. These are people who know each other from the Harmony Central discussion forums on the internet, and are now coming together from as far away as Minnesota, North Carolina, Oklahoma and Idaho to meet, greet and play like there's no tomorrow! The music will start around 5 p.m. and if you've never been to Campland, the venue is ideal. Overlooking Mission Bay, this sundown jam promises to be a thing of beauty.

It's been a quiet couple weeks but the band is ready to fire up again and Cheers! in Ramona is the spot this weekend! The THB will be there the 15th and 16th doin' what they do best, so come on up the hill and party with the band.

In the ever-burgeoning market of Internet Radio, BlacklightRadio.com is a forerunner and one of their show hosts, Kris K., has been impressed enough with the THB to include quite a few songs on his playlist and now has invited Taylor to co-host his show this coming Saturday night, September 9 from 7 - 10 p.m! Kris is a devotee of the lost art of radio and runs a very spontaneous show, playing anything and everything that pops into his head and is also a fan of Taylor's solo show. He told TH to bring his sense of humor and come to the studio, so it should be a lot of fun to see what these to guys come up with for a 3 hour show beyond the THB tunes they spin. Be sure to listen in and maybe even give the guys a call in the studio!

The first Cool Jam ever is less than three weeks away, and you'll want to mark your calendar to be at Campland On The Bay in Pacific Beach on Sept. 23rd. Cool Jam is a gathering of friends from the Harmony Central website discussion forums. These folks all play guitar, many have recorded and sold their music for years and this is the first time an event has been organized to get them all together! The THB will host the jam and be joined on stage by guitarists from as nearby as L.A. and as far away as Minnesota, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Colorado and Nevada! This should be a lot of fun, give some old THB songs a new sound and keep the boys in the band on their toes! Be sure to come out and be a part of history!

Don't let the lack of news postings fool you, the guys have not been hibernating! They've been dialing in their new P.A. system and working up a couple new songs for you, too. Playing some acoustic dates and private parties, they've been out of the limelight a bit, but will return with a vengeance on Sept. 15 at Cheers, will host the first ever annual Cool Jam GeezerFest on the 23rd, will rock Humphrey's on the 26th and be back at Don's on the 29th.
